Discord is introducing a new Clips feature that lets users record and upload snippets of private streams and voice calls, similar to the clipping tools for Twitch and YouTube. A version of this feature has been available for Discord Nitro+ subscribers for a while, but will soon be available for everyone. This feature is designed to make it easier to share fun or memorable moments from Discord streams with a wider audience and can be a great way to attract others to new Discord communities, but the current version of Clips has some privacy concerns, meaning you can be recorded without them knowing. Clip recording tools Fax Lists are still in beta and only available to select users. However, Discord has also implemented an additional setting that allows your voice channel to be included in other people's Clips, which is enabled by default. Why is this a big deal? Unlike Twitch or YouTube, Discord streams are not accessible. Users must be on the Discord server where the stream is being streamed or invited to a group call to watch. As such, Discord streams tend to be smaller, private events—usually between friends or community members. The fact that your private streams and calls are being recorded is trivial, but the real issue is that all users are logged in by default. Worse, Discord didn't warn users about this change or explain what it means or how to turn it off. This is not a great look! How to prevent others from recording your voice in Discord clips If you don't want your voice to be included in other people's Discord clips, you should turn off the following settings: Photographer Credit: Brendan Hesse Open Discord Go to Settings > Clips Click the slider next to "Allow my voice to be recorded in Clips.
